RIBA is working with National Building Specification (NBS) to undertake a Contracts and Law Survey, and CIAT has been approached to assist with this. Previous contracts and law surveys were carried out in 2012, 2015 and 2018.
The UK construction industry is often adversarial and successful projects rely on clear, timely and proportionate contracting arrangements. As we face ongoing COVID-19 challenges, this is as true now as ever before. The first NBS Construction Contracts and Law Survey was conducted back in 2012, and this survey will build on the findings of previous surveys.
The survey is open to all construction professionals to share their legal and contractual experiences over the last 12 months and is designed to be the most wide-ranging independent review of contractual and legal issues from across the industry. It is hoped that the survey will:
- provide an accurate picture of contracting practice in the UK that will highlight how improvements can be made
- help companies contextualise their approach to contracting within the wider industry
- support policy positions/decisions with facts
- The survey can be accessed here and the closing date is 29 April 2022. The findings from this survey are planned to be published later this year.
We encourage our Chartered and Fellow Members who wish to complete this survey to state that they are 'Chartered Architectural Technologists' where this is prompted or indicated.
